Smart Home Tech HQ exists for one simple reason: smart home products are genuinely useful, but the way they are sold makes them hard to choose. Every box shouts about ecosystems, standards, and features, and very little of it is explained in normal language. We fix that.
We write plain-English buying guides and explainers covering smart lighting, home security and cameras, climate and energy, and voice assistants and hubs. Our guides walk through the specifications that actually decide whether a product fits your home — compatibility, connectivity standards like Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Thread and Matter, wiring requirements, subscription costs, and the trade-offs the marketing leaves out.
We build our guides from published manufacturer specifications, official compatibility documentation, standards-body material, and widely reported pricing — and we say so openly. Where a figure is a general market range rather than a fixed fact, we label it as guidance, because prices and line-ups change constantly. We do not invent hands-on testing stories, we do not copy other sites’ conclusions, and when a category has a catch — a subscription you cannot avoid, a wire your home may not have — we put the catch in the guide, not in a footnote.
Smart Home Tech HQ is an independent, US-focused publication run by a small editorial team of smart home enthusiasts. We are part of a small family of practical guide sites built on the same idea: explain the decision clearly, compare the options honestly, and let the reader buy with confidence.
